If you are working with coloured pencils and want to create a subtle blend of colours then the Derwent Blender Pencil is the ideal accessory. It is a soft colourless pencil made from the binder used for making coloured pencils and allows you to blend two or more colours together to create a new colour. At the same time it physically mixes and smoothes the colours so individual strokes and hard edges are softened.
The Derwent Burnisher is a hard colourless pencil which when used over layers of pigment provides a rich polished finish. Burnishing pushes the pigment into the paper and leaves a very well blended, photo like finish. By sealing the image with a heavy wax it gives the image a polished or reflective look and makes the colours appear brighter. The Burnisher can also be used for the wax resist technique; draw your required design, this will add a layer of wax to the surface, then add your colour. The wax layer will resist the coloured pencil thus leaving that part of your drawing white.
